Gunshot Detected in Pasadena Neighborhood, Suspect Evades Police

A gunshot was detected in a Pasadena neighborhood on Thursday night, leading to a search for a fleeing suspect.

Pasadena police officers responded to the 100 block of West Hammond Street following a ShotSpotter alert that detected a single gunshot in the area.

Officers reportedly saw an unidentified man fleeing northbound on foot through the Kings Village apartment complex.

The police established a containment with the assistance of a department airship but were unable to locate the suspect after an area search.

It is unknown if the man was connected to the gunshot detection. Officers reportedly located a single shell casing as evidence of a shooting in the area.

At this time, there are no known victims related to the incident and no description of the suspect was available.

A diverse array of job seekers, including those directly affected by recent JPL layoffs and recent graduates, attended an aerospace job fair in Long Beach on Friday.

This job fair aimed to help the more than 500 people laid off from NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena.

Activity at The WorkPlace, the venue for the job fair, surged shortly after the event's scheduled 9 a.m. start time, as eager job seekers arrived with resumes in hand. Within an hour, JetZero, a Long Beach aviation startup, made the first job offer of the day.

Pasadena's Cultural Affairs Division Opens Applications for Grants to Support Local Arts and Culture

The City of Pasadena's Cultural Affairs Division, led by Jennifer Paige, Director of Planning and Community Development, has initiated the application process for the 2024-2025 Annual Grants Program.

This program is designed to offer financial support to eligible local arts and culture organizations and artists, with a specific focus on engaging local and regional audiences, as well as students from the Pasadena Unified School District.

Interested parties can submit proposals in four categories: Arts & Culture I, II, or III (based on annual organizational budget size), Arts Education, Festivals & Parades, or Individual Artists projects.

An important aspect of the application process is the requirement for a Cultural Equity and Inclusion (“CEI”) Statement, Plan, or Policy, in alignment with the LA County’s CEI Initiative.

The Cultural Affairs Division also provides free virtual technical assistance workshops to assist potential applicants in enhancing their grant-writing skills.

Attendance at these workshops is mandatory for new applicants and recommended for returning applicants.

The City of Pasadena funds the Annual Grants Program, and more information can be found on the Cultural Affairs Division website or by contacting Rochelle Branch, Cultural Affairs Division Manager.
